Good Design Award 2023 for multipurpose YON innovation

In conjunction with DOS LIFE (a water management expert under the Thammasorn Co., Ltd., group), Land and Houses Plc has developed YON, a multipurpose fence-embedded bin that houses parcels and letters while storing sorted waste. The two-in-one application has won a Good Design Award 2023 at a presentation ceremony held in Japan.

Based on a consumer behavioral study during the Covid-19 pandemic years, current lifestyles have shifted toward more online ordering of goods, which has resulted in delivery problems for parcels and other articles, since home mailboxes typically accommodate only letters and documents, not parcels or other goods. In addition, unhygienic methods of waste collection and separation have compromised family members’ safety and contributed to unsightly surroundings.

In view of such findings, Land and Houses and DOS LIFE together innovated and developed YON, a multipurpose bin whose upper compartment houses some large parcels and letters and lower compartment accommodates waste, with individual sections for sorted waste, including general waste, hazardous waste, recyclable waste, plastic water bottles, and magazine paper. This enables disposal from inside home compounds.

YON was among the recipients of Good Design Awards 2023 in the Equipment and Facilities for Professional Use category. The award criteria were Human Perspective (ease of application), Industrial Perspective (novel technology and material, new business initiation), Social Perspective (cultivation of new culture, recognition of social sustainability), and Time Perspective (medium-term and long-term applicability).

Joining the designer team, on October 25 this year Mr. Poomjai Voravanichakorn (second right), Land and Houses Vice President, Product Development, and Mr. Dissaniti Towiwat (third right), Managing Director, Thammasorn Co., Ltd., received the award at the Good Design Exhibition 2023 event at Tokyo Midtown, Japan. Conceived in 1957 and widely accepted for over 60 years, the awards focus on promoting the quality of life and society through designs. They are commonly known among designers as G-Mark awards.

To this end, YONs have been installed at its CHAIYAPRUEK Chaengwattana, CHAIYAPRUEK Pran Nok - Sai 2, VIVE Krungthep Kreetha, VIVE Bangna km 13, Villagio 3 Srinakarin – Bangna, and CHAIYAPRUEK Rangsit Klong 4 projects. Future projects that will feature such installation include Mantana Motorway – Rama 9, CHAIYAPRUEK Bangna km 13, CHAIYAPRUEK Phetkasem 69, Mantana Bangna km 13, and Nantawan Bangna km 15.
